Our Beginning
Bal Duniya is a charity started by Anagha Chitnis. She has been organizing garage sales with the help of many kids in the Redmond Ridge community for the past few years.

Previously, 50% of the proceeds were given to Shradhanand Anathalaya (Orphanage) in Nagpur, India. While the garage sales were fun, we had limited ability to generate funds to make a difference. During 2010, we have made great progress by organizing a car wash and a candy sale and will follow up with a pledge drive this winter.

At Bal Duniya, the members (all under 18) make all the decisions. Our members earn voting rights by raising a specific amount of money. Members are encouraged to bring proposals for organizations to sponsor and then voting members vote to approve a proposal.

Our members benefit in many ways by this process. They learn how to identify opportunities, write a proposal, make a case for their ideas and finally, make decisions as a team.


Our Story
The seed for this charity was sown during one of Anagha´s visits to India. During this visit she visited Shradhanand Anathalaya (Orphanage) in Nagpur , India. The relatively poor conditions encouraged her to organize a garage sale with 50% of the proceeds going to this orphanage. The garage sale participants ranged from 7 year olds to 15 year olds and they all had great fun.

This group of enthusiastic kids has been growing in size and during the summer of 2010 decided to do more. A car wash was organized in the community and the generous support from local businesses and families made it a great success. During the car wash, the kids also collected food for the "End Summer Hunger" program by Hopelink.

This journey has continued and has resulted in many more events!
